Re: West Ham in fresh move to land top target David Moyes
Surely our criteria should be a manager who has been successful playing good football.

That surely includes someone like Rogers were Liverpool to get rid, maybe even Monk at Swansea, and the likes of Bielsa.

Trouble with Moyes is not that he isn't a good manager, but that he's from a previous era. European managers have been ahead of us, and our new breed of coaches coming through are only just catching on

If I could pick any manager at all for our current situation it would be Wenger. A man with principles about the way the game should be played, a preference for bringing through youth and developing a team, and content working to unearth talent rather than sign the finished article.

Given he will never be available to us, we should be looking for a man in his image/mould. Moyes that is not.

The biggest shame really for me is that Zola didn't work out. He at least had the right principles and focus on team development. It just didn't happen...wouldn't have surprised me if he'd been more successfull now given the abject shit he had to work with, but he was the last player for me who at least you felt had the right principles in place. Never bad mouthed the club or fans, never had a pop at the players in public, conducted himself well.

As for those linked, Bielsa seems to fit most with our club. A bit of a loon, his teams are fantastic to watch, aggressive, and play a high pressure pressing game. He'd probably even be able to work as a coach rather than all-controlling manager which seems to be the way Sullivan wants to take it with the Henry appointment and other teams have done given managers come and go but its unsustainable to change the whole squad each time.

Moyes would be a safe, lazy appointment, based on the fact his British, wouldn't get us relegated and 'did well at Everton and managed Man Utd' without any real deeper analysis of his football, philosophy or whether he's a good fit for us. Unfortunately, Sullivan and Gold don't seem like 'detail orientated' types.

De Boer and Biesla are possible.

Grumpster, I don't really care either way. But then I never really found Sam's football any more boring than any other of our managers.

I like that list, but I only consider Howe to be realistically possible. And probably not if Bournemouth are promoted.

That's the problem.

I trust that means you want to keep Sam then Darby seeing as we're sitting pretty in the top half of the table?

Everyone has a different outlook on footie, but mine is about enjoying the spectacle and I've enjoyed losses in seasons gone by more than I have wins under some of Sam's terrible football.

Rodgers
Koeman
De Boer
Howe
Cocu
Biesla (I'll be honest i've jumped on the bandwagon a bit with this one. Like what I read about him but haven't seen anything of his teams that I can recall)

but there's 5 or 6 for a start

Charlton fans were saying the same thing about Curbs needing to move on. A lot of fans start to get a bit deluded after they've been successful for a while.

There's a simple test of whether he was good for Everton. Look at where they finished under him, and then look at where they finished in the decade before he joined.

Good point Serious.... change Moyes to Alladyce and that could have been a letter about us (apart from no chance of getting to a cup final!!)

I said this is the past but:

This seem familiar to anyone? right down to the "finishing 7th is like winning the champions league".

Re: West Ham in fresh move to land top target David Moyes
Benitez has the best record but he left Valencia due to the budget, with huge money to spend at Liverpool and Chelsea he achieved. Then again Grant got Chelsea to a Champs league final only losing on penalties, league cup final and only lost the premiership on the last day (Benitez never won the Premiership), Grant also got Portsmouth to the FA cup final in a relegation season and won a title with Belgrade.

Benitez would be a huge gamble with our budget if he came. It is all so much easier with the millions available at the top, we need a few years yet for revenue to increase and to build gradually. He comes across arrogant and see us as a step down, like he is doing us a favour to be at West Ham. I could see him blaming the budget if he didn't do well.

Re: West Ham in fresh move to land top target David Moyes
For me the problem with BFS is the obvious contempt he appears to have for the club and the fans.

All he ever goes on about is how great Bolton were... you would have thought he would have been glad and proud to be manager of a proper football club with passionate support who sell out every week (despite the crap he serves up) instead of the northern tosspots who had crap support and empty terracing but lapped up their 'success' under the fat oaf.

The man is clearly living in the past, nothing is ever his fault....... get rid...... SAM OUT.

Re: West Ham in fresh move to land top target David Moyes
I watch every game that's on Sky Nick and also more if there are no English games on via streams and have seen around 5/6 Sociedad games since he's been in charge.

No doubting he know how to oranise a team, but only one of them was even remoptely exciting and that was only because Agirexte (shit spelling) nicked an early goal and made it easy for them against one of the bottom teams.

Plus his Everton and Utd teams were boring as fuck too.

To be honest, I really don't envy the owners when it comes to making the decision as to who is in charge of the club next season (Sam or otherwise) It's a very, very tough one to make.
